Found this penny while searching through a box recently, and noticed that the designer's initials were very weak for this penny. Some of the letters in "IGWT" are similar, in they seem to be thinner towards the top of the letters. I have seen this before a few times, but do not know how it happens. Could someone explain how this occurs and/or if it is special in any way? Thanks!
Simple.. Worn Die Strike. When that happens there is a bit of compacted grease in the incused areas of the Die so those issues you asked about will occur.
