I found this 1988 P in my pocket change. I know its worn and not worth anything but face value. But I was wondering what would cause what I call brush Mark's from the date and mint mark across the bottom to the motto. I know the picture isn't the best but my lighting sucks today. I'm sure it's just a common dime. But was wanting to know for future reference. Thanks

Looks to be from a worn die.
Here is a picture of a quarter like it.

    Die deterioration - just struck
from a worn or overused die.

    A fairly common occurance
