Welcome...So you want some schooling - nice ....So that's my name and I sent my 88 to Dr James Wiles about 15 years ago. It took my awhile to convince others that this variety existed, but he agreed. Most shot me down like the Red Baron. For me back then I'd like to look at the style of font then I know what year the penny is. If that sounds weird that's what happened. With my 1988 ....I thought it was the 89-92 group but hey- it caught my eye. I tested myself with a pile of 86 thru 92's and my 88 always ended up in that 89-92 group. So with your 1988 Paul, it does look like a RDV-006. Wish your pics weren't so much glare, plus the Lincoln Memorial looks more sharper image like in the 89-92 (RDV-006)group. maybe you can get a better picture. Also check the font style too between the #5 and #6 versions. By the way ...nice looking 1988. This variety seemed like it's found more in the Northeast by the way.

One thing that most say about this variety is being wide am. Of course Wide AM(RDV-006) has to have the opposite Close AM(RDV-007) variety which does not exist for 1988 but Cherry Pickers liked to group it that way sorta. The 85-88 group is RDV-005 but is neither Wide or Close. But thats my gruff. Snowman
