[QUOTE="desertgem, post: 4215747, member: 15199"]This is my own opinion as I know several will be upset. You can not do well at finding errors or varieties AND verifying them with a cheap USB type of microscope. You and the rest are looking hard to find something , using an USB with 5mp or less and then blowing up just a section for identification posting means the software has to make and include a larger and larger number of inferred unknown ( FAKE) values from trends of the known data. Intrapolated means it checks what is around the fake insertion it is going to do and puts in something that fits. Once your image starts looking like cubes, you are Way over the norm. Using an APP magnifier on a USB image just increases the fake-ness. I know the USB is cheaper than a real lab type microscope, but I would buy the best magnifier possible for a similar price rather than the USB camera to start. You can with practice take photos of a coin using the phone camera with the glass magnifier. I like these, come in several powers, I use the 10X. It's a triplet.

https://www.amazon.com/BelOMO-Triplet-Folding-Magnifier-Anti-Reflection/dp/B00EXPWU8S?th=1

You can tell if you are adding fake pixels by using a coin with stairs on it. The camera can not know when the edge is going to turn or not , so the edge of the staircase is fuzzy. The camera does well if all of the lines are straight and the shades are few, but give it a real life object with curves and it will not do well.

Almost all of the illustration photos in the error and variety webpages are not USB. They may be electronic, but with 8-12 mp level, the fuzziness isn't noticeable. With the new 24mp+ cameras, any fuzziness you see are your doing.

Before you ask. Yes, I have used an USB camera . Bought it when they were new, 3mp ( high for then). Used it for several weeks and put it back into the box.
