Something I picked up at a coin show a few years ago for all of $2.

errors.jpg Gotta love those off-centered ones! Looks like Jefferson is trying to escape.

What's Jefferson doing in this coin?

    Obviously a repeat offender.

That is a great error for $2. Especially considered the visible date and mm.

Off-centered strike. I also have a Lincoln cent, Washington quarter, and Kennedy half dollar struck off-center also.

Jefferson's been on the Nickel a long time. Can't blame him for trying to sneak off the obverse. Like in your coin. Maybe it's about time he was promoted to Dime status? LOL

Is the Jefferson the coin most susceptible to being off centered? I sure seem to see a lot of them.

That's what I thought at first, but upon closer examination of my coin I see it has no distinct rim like all the other off-center strikes shown here, and the rim area at the top of the design is not perfectly curved but rather distorted somewhat.

It retains a lot of the characteristics of the blank planchet used to produce the coin. When struck correctly, a rim is formed.
