TUTAMEN then a COSS then the words DECUS ET

I think it is silver.

Its a British One Pound coin in use today, they are worth £1 or $1.41 US.
Made from a mixture of copper, nickel and zinc.

The edge says "Decus et Tutamen" which is Latin. It translates to "An ornament and a safeguard."
