1987 Canada Cent Chips, Accumulations or simply blotches?

  1. Hi There,
    Does anyone know what these "things" on the 1987 Canadian penny are? Suggestions would be most appreciated and thanks.

    They look like stains. If they are raised, they may be adhesive or dried gunk. JMHO

    I'd have to agree with @Danomite that they appear to be stains or something on the coin. Maybe a soak in acetone would remove them and then you would know for sure.

    Stains. 1-cent coins from the mid-1980s to the mid-1990s are rife full of them. I suspect it was from improper washing or drying of the planchets. For modern 1-cent registry set players, they are extremely frustrating, as they definitely detract from the eye-appeal of higher grade coins. Here is an example:
