So this is a really cool doubled die Im pretty sure and i have never seen it effecting the ear like this minus the doubled ear ones everyone already knows about. Is this considered like a legit doubled ear?
Hi I believe it’s the 1984 that has the double ear variety. Imho, I don’t see any doubling of the ear.
you are correct it is the 1984. 1984 NGC MS67RD FS-101 (037) Red DDO Double Ear Doubled Die Obverse Lincoln Cent. sellers pics... It was not cheap either. It cost me $442.00 for this high grade variety.
When I think I see some weirdness or need to check if something is strange, that's when I whip out my collection of regular old major non-error varieties set. I've filled it with as much minty red as possible so it's clean and clear. It works well as a reference to know what each year is supposed to look like, even if it looks Lincoln has totally mutated on a coin, sometimes, it's just how it is on all of them.
I can't tell anything from the photos, most likely MD or a small die chip they are common on the zLincolns.
I wish I had more weekends to read the CoinTalk threads more thoroughly. This one, for example, is interesting. Till now, I've never even heard of "double ear".
Most doubled ears are a class IV ddo they have a spread that slowly disapates into the perimeter devices. There are definitely some neat DDO's in the doubled ear variety's.
