1986-D Lincoln Memorial Cent error

    I was curious if anyone knew if this was a mint error or not an error at all? The same thing is occurring with the mint mark but I couldn't get that picture to load for some reason. I'll retake it if requested.

    Die Deterioration. Copper Plated Zinc Cents are affected by the deterioration. You will see the plating with these type of issues. Nothing really major.

    Yeah, it's just the funky metallic composition, you see that a lot on these, @Maven, especially after the dies wear a little bit, the planchets can't hold a clean strike.

    I appreciate your reply. I had no idea about a die deterioration. Did you happen to see the mint mark? Just curious if you were able to see it clearly? Why would the die deteriorate in an ecact image as the mint mark?

    It's the metal on the coin. Do you see all those "bubbles," "blisters?" The bubbly, blistery metal has problems holding strikes, even from clean dies.
