I'm pretty sure it's real, there isn't really any financial incentive to counterfeit cents, especially common dates.
I see what you are talking about, I just checked out a 95 canadian and it looks a bit like that, but not so pronounced, so I'd say it is probably normal. I could be wrong though, so i'm sure someone will chime in.
Very unique coin I must say. Looks real to me; but I would check with the experts here on CT. This coin interests me because it is unusal and different. Great find.
I assume that you are serious. Hence, it is a real coin, 12 sided. Normal for all Canadian cents for several years in the 1980's. GSDykes
