1985 D Quarter Error or PMD?

    Hi, I have this 1985 D Quarter that appears to me to be PMD at first glance but it's very interesting and I'm wondering if there's a possibility it's a type of mint error. I'm new to this hobby so more experienced opinions are most welcome! Thank you!

    First, welcome to the neighborhood @Heather Sawyer !

    As you sift through your circulated coins, you're bound to find a few that have been abused like this quarter. There have been billions upon billions of coins released into circulation by the Mint, so finding a few thousand with post-mint damage like this is not all that uncommon.
