1985-D Lincoln Cent Mint Mark Error?

    Could someone please tell me why the mint mark looks like this? Is it a minting error, or something post mint? Thank you.

    That's pretty odd. Looks to me like post mint damage, especially considering the green area around it.

    It's not an error. Zinc corrosion.

    A lot of zinc pennies start to rot at the mintmark. Meow is not sure why, but it happens very often.
