On obverse of this 1984 penny I noticed some "cracking" on the rim. What category would it fall under?
That black spot? No that's just probably toning or a stain. No die crack unless that's not what you're looking. Take the picture where ever you see a die crack.
The cracking on the edge from 9 to 12:00 is a Minor Error and does not add any value to your coin. This can happen when the Planchet does not fall into the die collar completly and it gets pinched a little during the strike. It is not a Die Crack.
