I don't see the extra bow. I've also looked a several '84's they seem to vary a bit in the detail whether it be from polishing or just wear. Yours looks about normal.
There is nothing unusual about the bow tie. And the beard is normal. I think that when people start examining coins extremely closely, they begin to notice what is normal but get the impression that it is different.
can you see the bow with this picture? i cant believe im the only one that sees it. also the beard. am i the only one!!!!!!
boy am i a dumb azz on a computer. i dont know how to put arrows on the picture. but it is at 11.00 north west of the tie. I wish they would go back to the old way so us dummies can put pictures up. not everyone knows computers. all they say is that it will work! Its easy!!! but its only easy when you know what you are doing. It makes me mad that I cant figure it out. cant even put a picture up !!!!!!! they stay small no matter what I do. I dont know!!!!!!! maybe they can put up 2 ways of putting pictuers up. thanks for your help , but if ya cant see it thats ok thanks bill
Hey Bill, If you feel that passionate about this coin, I would just send it in to Coppercoins.com. Send pics to cd@coppercoins.com. He will try to help you the best he can. If he doesn't answer in a fast enough time for you, just send it their office for possible attribution. You may be right. These pics suck now on this site. That is why I have stopped posting so much. It just frustrates me. I would just spend the 3 dollars and send it in and see what happens. Jessie
Guys, It's a normal bowtie. It is a sculptured version of what used to be the type of bowtie that was tied by hand. It is not what a bought off the wrack bowtie looks like today. What you see as a doubled bowtie is the portion that would be the left side of the "bow" . The other part that you've identified is the extra portion that dangles off the tie after it would have been tied. In other words, it's a bowtie that was in use during Lincoln's time. There is nothing abnormal about it. The beard is the way it should be on a fresh die. What you are identifying as doubling is the normal contour of the design that gives the beard a little depth in the design. It is not a doubled die. I've literally looked at millions of 1982, 1983 and 1984 cents that looked like this when they are early die state and of the millions, thousands that looked like this. It's tough for me to find an early die state piece that I can lay my hands on to do some pictures but there is nothing at all unusual about the coin. Thanks, Bill
thank you very much for explaining that to me. I learned alot just by what you said. also Im sorry for letting off some steam. its just that Im really no good at computers and when they changed it on me and I can not figure it out I want to throw this thing against the wall!!!!! It used to be easy for me.-- Id put a picture on my desktop, click on it, click the pencil, draw an arrow and I was done. it used to inlarge by itself. now I cant do it and everything i try fails. sorry if im long winded thanks for letting me blow off some steam BILL
