My suggestions to the new (beginner) treasure hunter of die varieties.

    1. Start out searching for the 1st year or so with new coinage. Circulated coinage has to much variation (ware, discoloration, dirt, dings and etc) and makes hunting a lot harder.

    2. Start out searching for RPMs (Repunched Mint Marks). Your search field on the coin is very small and your knowledge of the coin design is focused on a single attribute. The basic characteristics of a RPM are similar to doubled dies. Rolls of uncirculated memorial cents from the early 1960's are very inexpensive and there is a large number of different RPM varieties in this time frame.

    3. Reference material, reference material, reference material - you can't read enough but read all you can.

    4. If you plan on becoming a serious variety hunter - Plan on buying a decent stereoscope.

Zoom in pic is too blurry, but that one looks like it might be something.

    Exactly.

The more Lincolns you see, the faster you'll know when there's die doubling vs. anything else that might be confused with it...

Also remember the MORE you zoom the more you THINK you see. Biger does not mean better.

This one is not a DDO, but keep in mind there are two 1984 Double ear varieties, and several DDO's for this year as well. Keep looking:)
