So i came across this 1983 penny with a strange mint error, does anyone know if the coin is worth anything?
Looks like it was struck very slightly off center. Is that what you are seeing? Otherwise just normal wear and tear, maybe some plating issues.
Take a look at this site and see if you can match the mint-marks to your . http://www.coppercoins.com/lincoln/dietype.php?date=1983&die_mint=d&die_type=mm&page=0
It looks like it may be the same thing as this. If it is, it's from corrosion around the mint mark. The D actually broke away as a result. No real value but kind of interesting.
I'm always hoping but the problem with finding rare coins is that they are really rare. I keep looking and about every 6th box from the bank has something nice along with some low value keepers from all the boxes....
There are tons of errors out there, but in reality most have little or no value over face. Small die cracks, grease filled dies, slight off center strikes or misaligned dies, happens a lot but not much value in most.
