1983 Penny is this on a copper planchet ?

    No.. That clearly looks like a normal Copper Plated Zinc Cent

    Dowell.. you need to buy a Gram Scale. Weigh your Cents
    copper weighs - 3.11 grams
    copper plated zinc weighs - 2.5 grams

    Lincoln Cents Minted from 1909 until mid 1982 weigh 3.11 grams
    Cents Minted after mid 1982 weigh 2.5 grams

    There are 2 kinds in 1982 - Copper and Copper Plated Zinc

    And for those who want to correct me.. yes the 1943 Zinc coated Steel Cents weigh 2.8 grams

    Adding to what @paddyman98 said, make sure your scale measures to .01 grams resolution.
