Since the spitting eagle is official being recognized as a variety now i'll have to add it to the description on the my coin was in, actually i will likely send it in for grading and the double attributions.

Does anyone see any problems with this? I know the spitting eagle as a bit touch and go for a little but now i think she is here to stay..

Also under lighted USB microscopes to coin dos look too bad but under just 10x she is a beauty! I would say she is off-center about 5%.

    Pics Incoming!!!

1983 P Quarter : Off Center Strike / Spitting Eagle

What do you guys think? If you think the 'spit' on the spitting eagle is strong enough i'd like to send it to PGSG or NGC.

For all those who don't know me. This would be my first submission. I got into CRH and then collecting under years ago but i am what you would consider hooked and spending 10 - 25 hours a week hunting various denominations.

I've seen the designation on both PCSG and NGC holders. Pricing from PCSG site is above in pic.

    Interesting.. Thanks for sharing.

Show the edge of your quarter. Might be a Broadstrike.

I think you need to re shoot the reverse photos the obverse are great, reverse is dark and could be sharper with better light.

Very cool coin! No reeding equals broadstuck right? Obverse die state looks pretty worn to me but I am no pro. Also looks like you can see some of the clash on the Obverse.

So would this coin be an off-center, broadstrike, spitting eagle? So it would have a third error on the same coin? I can take some more pics of the reverse again later

I could be wrong (Someone please correct me if I am), but I believe that most broadstrucks are not centered, so I believe this coin would not have two errors.
Edit: Just did some more research and this is actually called an "uncentered braodstrike."

    For the Quarter in question..
    Not Off Center.. Just Broadstruck

There was no third collar to hold the planchet in place at the moment it was struck. So the Planchet expanded and did not take the form it needed to show a reeded edge.

I just did some more research on error-ref... Wouldn't this be considered an uncentered broadstrike?

Probably.. Uncentered is different from Off Center. In an Off center you would be missing part of the lettering and/or numerals.

I’m not sure if this is exactly how they do this, but the “Spitting Eagle” would most likely be a variety and not an error.

S20181017_0012.jpg S20181017_0006.jpg Grading Rev S20181017_0012 .jpg Grading 1983 P Spitting eagle prices.JPG S20181017_0014.jpg S20181017_0013.jpg I'm not positive if it's an error or a variety but i think i am going to try to figure out a grade and then an approximate value in case (i likely will) slab it and sell it while these quarters (years) are hot and the spitting eagle is so talked about.

I personally would it a 64+, maybe 65 but I understand owners to be partial.

I do believe it is missing SOME letters and the No Reeds from the broadstrike are really evident on this example.

Guesses to Value? I'm thinking in the ~$325.

    Few more pics
