Hi, I would to begin with a collection of KM 201b Lincoln cents (MS65 better) and was thinking to start with this MS 67 1983 Double die reverse. It is not cheap. I am not very familiar with US prices. Your opinion please. Thank you Derick http://www.ebay.com/itm/1983-US-Lin...73?pt=Coins_US_Individual&hash=item4174fda8a1
Hrm That price seems a bit high then again that garde of year variety has sold for around that in the past. But in general if you are going to collect high grade later lincoln cents it shouldn't be nearly that much for each coin. But if you are gonna collect varieties in those high grades definitely expect it to be a hopefully fun challenge.
I do try to buy my coins in best grade where possible. Given the case of this Lincoln series (not proofs), it seems quite possible. From what I have seen, the 1983 DDR seems scarce in this grade. I seems like a good start, most difficult and expensive first. I just wanted to confirm the price not being stupidly high.
The price on that coin is a bit "optimistic"! I'd pass and wait for one of the other 41 to come up for auction.
Follow the ebay link and look at e pluribus Unum. The price is a little steep in my opinion - there are several up for auction on heritage right now in lower grades. Check heritage out for some pricing ranges.
