    I wouldn't say the coin is ruined but it is forever damaged.

    "Ruined"? Well, if it had been a valuable coin to begin with, its monetary value would have been very sharply decreased, to be sure.

    But since it wasn't a valuable coin to begin with, there's not much harm in the hole. It's just as fun as a keychain piece as it would have been as a common modern Mexican coin in your collection. In fact, a little more fun, I'd say, purely as a novelty or conversation piece.
