Does this look like it might be dipped to make the weight off? Not sure if should be 2.5 or 3.11 but either way it's way off.

There are 2 types of 1982 cents. The zinc and the copper. There is a difference in weight between them.
    Not sure if this helps.
Hows the edge of the rim look?

Rim is normal looking. Zinc '82's are supposed to weigh 2.5gm and copper ones are supposed to weigh 3.11gm. Since this one weighs 2.87gm (half way in between both weights) it still leaves me in question land.

Have you checked the calibration of your scale? What do other known zinc cents weigh?

Not magnetic and scale was calibrated. Other known zinc cents weigh 2.5gms.

I'm not great with the "ding" test...but it sounds more like copper than zinc.

    The coin is uncirculated, right?

The obverse is not fully struck. I don't see any gas bubbles so it must be copper. Could be a thin planchet.

The coin is circulated. I found it while coin roll searching.
And the "fuzziness" from Liberty to In God We to the back of Lincoln's head is a fingerprint.

I dont see any evidence that it was struck on an underweight, or split planchet.

Definitely sounds like a thin planchet copper cent. The next test to confirm would be a specific gravity test.
