Is this worth having sent off to be graded ? Can anyone give me an estimated value ? Thanks to all !! Nick
Only the coin of one cent 1982 D (MUST to be of DENVER) with the number 2 in size small date AND WEIGHING 3.11 GRAMS (HAS TO BE MADE OF COPPER), has high value for collection, because it is VERY RARE. ALL OTHERS ARE COMMON because they were made in the millions.
Don’t be sorry. I’m happy you are enthusiastic about coin collecting but you do need to lay the groundwork for educating yourself in this extremely complex hobby. Also, in my opinion, 1982 cents are a complete waste of time. All are worth one cent, with the exception of the one example of which only one has been found. Not great odds if you ask me.
The 1982 small date Philly in copper and zinc has a little value in mint state. They made 17 billion cent coins in 1982 and almost all of them are worth 1 cent. You are not alone.
@Nick Chiappetta ...have you weighed it? Honestly, it looks like a copper-plated zinc cent...so there is a 17 billion to one chance it is the rare one...Spark
Well, 17 billion is the total. Almost 11 billion Phillies and 6 billion Denvers. 6 billion to 1 not including the 2 already discovered. Which makes it 3 billion to 1 and only 2 billion to 1 on the next 1982-D small date copper. THE ODDS ARE SHRINKING AS WE LIVE AND BREATHE.
You're right...I should have considered Denvers only, and I forgot a second one had been found...Spark
Holy smokes.. I wasn't aware of a 2nd find! https://www.coinworld.com/news/us-c...second-bronze-1982-d-small-date-cent.all.html So Bellman was wrong in stating that another will never ever be found! So this means.. The hunt will continue and dozens of more threads will be seen!
I always posted that I believed another one would be discovered. Although honestly, I didn't think it would be this soon.
