Hi my friends here at Cointalk, I hope y'all are doing great. I have the 1982D penny 3.1 grams. It's not in the best of shape but it is the 3rd one discovered. Look at the pic and lmk what y'all experts think. Thank you my friends.
Definitely not I'm not an expert but my 37 years of collecting Mint Errors makes me specialize in most attributions. A Small Date would be further away from the rim. Yours is close making it a Large Date IMHO.. Damaged Large Date @furryfrog02 What do you think
I was hoping to be left out of the conversation One blurry not full picture of a coin in a capsule does not a 1982d small date make. OP, show us both sides of the coin - out of the capsule. Also, lets see it on a scale. Finally, let's see a closer and clearer picture of the date. Until then, I am in @paddyman98 s camp. Damaged large date.
If you continue the descending arc of the "2" it will result in a rounded arc joining the lower line at the base.
I think small date too. It’s beat up but the distance from the rim looks to be larger and indicative of the small date. But a spender...there are far better to be had.
Large Date...the 8 is a large date 8, the 2 is damaged and the distance from the rim says “large date”...jmho...Spark
Without better photos, I say the jury can only offer an opinion. Regarding date to coin edge distance, the rim is damaged, therefore, that distance is speculation.
Call the police and tell them your coin was involved in a hit and run. Tell them to send the coinonor, cause it's dead.
I was thinking more on the lines that it got into a fight with the street cleaner gang.....and lost. That penny's name must be Bad, Bad Leroy Brown because he's got a couple of pieces missing.
