Welcome puffnstuff. What you have looks like a mis-aligned die.

Hard to tell from the small photos, assuming it isn't PMD, then i would agree that it is likely a obverse MAD (misaligned die)...

    And welcome to the forum!

    Hi,

I don't know what it is about 1982 and 1982 D quarters but a huge number of them look this way.

I just did a box of quarters and every 1982 D looked like this. If I had to guess, It looks more to me like the hubs were worn placing details very near the edges on the dies made with those hubs. When the coins were struck, the lettering being closer to the edges would have been a likely result.

It is not a misaligned die though.

    Thanks,
    Bill

physics-fan3.14 You got any more of them.... prooflikes?

It is not a misaligned die (see my recent thread on the subject). I would say they are either heavily worn coins, or foundinroll's theory sounds plausible. I've seen coins which have been used at casinos for a long time that have almost completely worn away the edges, such that the diameter of the coin is noticeably smaller than a regular coin.

No it's not a misaligned Die there's no indication of that. I assume it was worned down the edges some how ,and it's giving that appearance a worn coin.
