I normally focus on ancient and world coins, but I found this in my change. I know it's not a major error, but I think it's interesting that it's only on the obverse. I'd appreciate any comments on how it got this way. Thanks
HI This is what is called a Misaligned Die Strike on the Obverse side. Not an Off Center error. The evidence is of course the perfectly centered Reverse strike. The Obverse is off creating the False Double Rim.
There really is no huge premium for this type of error. It's considered a minor error. Depends on the collector and what they are willing to pay for it. Maybe $1.00 or $2.00. It's a common occurrence so there are many to be found.
At least now I know what to call it. In ancient coins, it would be called "normal". Perfectly aligned coins are called "especially nice". Thanks for the insight.
Now if it were a higher denomination it would have a good premium. Such as this Misaligned Die Ike part of my collection.. $60.00 - $100.00
