Hi, I am new to this site and excitied to find out more about a penny I found. Its a 1981 penny with no mint mark, but a little bit above the number 8 a light number 7 is there, also a faint number by the 7 but that one has a mark kind of over it. I was wondering how common is this for a 1981 and if it has any value? Where could I take it to get it looked at? Does this sound different ? If its sometning special I wouldn't mind putting it up for auction. Thanks for the imfo, any and all advice is appreciated
still pretty cool Thank you I.Cutter So what do you think about a 1999 Jefferson nickle with FS? Im learning here im excitied to read everyones posts and thoughts.
Welcome to CoinTalk. Glad to see your enthusiasm. Please don't be put off by the sarcasm that is often encountered here (from me too), but a lot of these questions have been asked 100's of times. FS nickels are usually good to find, but I'm not sure which years are better than others. How long have you been collecting and what do you collect?
Thank you I have been collecting a little bit of everything I do alot of googling to read up on coins The Jefferson nickle is a 1999 FS so far the oldest coin I have is a Mercury dime that is a 1945 ( still common I guess). I been reading up on state quarters and just interested in all kinds. I like to go on the Heritage Auction site to see whats new
Please understand where that puts you. Basically nowhere. You're one part "this is a line; this is a curve" and one part debating the competing merits of alternative restoration methods for "The Last Supper". You need discipline and focus. Laser beams, not sawed-off shotgun blasts. The bane of almost all recent novices is lack of focus. In my youth, there were no easy shortcuts to shotgunning a hobby. You had to pick and read a dead tree book. There is merit in that.
I can handle constructive criticism well when im feeding my horses I tend to only have a certain amount of time to do my research, it is what relaxes me, exercises my mind Learning about the coin but interested in the history and numbers made in particular year
Snowbird, It would be to your advantage to buy or get a copy of the red Book of coins from the library. Many of your questions will be answered in this book. Dave
Would it surprise you to know that there were almost 7 and a half BILLION no mintmark 1981 cents made? The clear MAJORITY have no mintmark.
Yes Sir I have read that!! Its amazing how even the material has changed and the different colors of pennys. Everything has seemed to change except for the nickle
