I see this on a lot of coins can someone tell me why in God we trust sometimes look thicker? I also notice on Liberty at times
Are u talking on the back? I think I know what u are seeing but I will let u tell me u are more of a expert then me
Yes and here's what I'm thinking it is . 1981 1¢ WDDR-001 Description: A Class II spread towards the center shows on ONE CENT, the designer’s initials, UNITED, and AMERICA. Die Markers: Obverse: Short die scratches run NE from the top of the Y in LIBERTY. Reverse: None significant. Submitted By: Whaden Curtis Cross References: None known
Look at the N in CENT. The bridge between the two "bars" is much thicker than the typical. Typical feature of Class II spreading. -SC
I am not as experienced as I believe the people on here are and I appreciate everyone's help. But what does that mean ?should I do something with this ?
Yes. Many of our members are very educated. I study 24/7. A doubled die is rather complicated. All it is basically when the die (thing that strikes the design on the coin) has a doubled image. These are not purpously made by the mint. John Wexler indexes these coins. Wexler Doubled Die Obverse #1. Nice find. -SC
I read that this morning thank u. I just am not sure where I should have this checked out at. I live in Indiana very few places to get it looked at and not so sure they really look closely at them.Do u think it has some value to it?
You could send it to Mr. Wexler and yes, they are worth a few bucks . http://www.doubleddie.com/402401.html
