1980 P multi colored quarter, Thoughts?

    Thoughts on this? not the greatest photos but i dont have the greatest camera, its got a light penny like copper tone, a red tone, and black. smooth feel like any other quarter. The rim doesn't have a lot of discoloration but the edge does. as shown in the right in the edge photo compared to a regular quarter "on the left". SAM_0949.JPG SAM_0981.JPG SAM_0942.JPG

    Environmental Damage. Maybe Chemical Stain.
    Not a Mint Error.

    Yes.. Clad layers on Quarters and Dimes change to all sorts of colors and patterns when exposed to the elements and chemicals. Here are some I have found metal detecting -

    When I see coins like yours I always think they likely sat in somebody's drink holder taking a coke-cola bath. A coin left exposed to soda for a period of time can show a myriad of odd colors.

    The coins may have been exposed to soda. What was the coin-owner exposed to ???
