Happy New Year! I have a 1979 Lincoln Penny that appears to have multiple errors such as, some doubling around the "y" in "Liberty", a cud on the mouth, and I can't determine whether or not there is an additional earlobe. Your thoughts , either way, will be greatly appreciated. Thank you.
No, no, and no. DDD on Y, cuds are are the rim of coins, ear is PMD and nothing else. Sorry, but keep looking.
hit. look at the shapes involved. Look at the "highest" part of the Y in question. Its deformed. The way a doubled die comes into existence, this shape would be impossible...any doubling will appear being the same shape....unless damaged by something post mint. Its not too hard to tell the difference when looking. Imagine a tiny screw driver or something bumping and displacing or deforming the soft copper.
