1979-D Lincoln - Red Color

    It is sometimes hard to capture color variations when photographing a single coin, here is an interesting red color I saw while sorting 1970's BU cents.

    The other 3 are actually RED according to the established numismatic color code. The Cent in question would be RED BROWN due to natural toning.

    Not red. I disagree on the red brown.
    It looks pink from toning and doesn't fit anywhere on the chart.

    I don't see the color of that coin anywhere on the chart.
    Just a toned copper cent to me.

    You suggesting "questionable color"? The whole top is a smeared strike, or PMD.

    Remember, bronze is a fairly reactive alloy. It's capable of a good many colors.

    What is the proper term for the circular mark at the top of last 79 D photo?
    I have many coins with this mark.

    If it's the faint line going through IN GOD then that looks to be a result of Die Deterioration

    Thank You. I've only found one coin that had this mark on obverse and reverse.
