Has anyone seen this? I have two 1978 Lincoln cents that have mint marks that appear very different. Notice one is much closer to Lincoln's coat, and also at a slightly different angle (I don't think that is the way the coin is turned). Also, one is larger than the other. I realize that may be the strike, but still........

    Has anyone seen this?

Such coins are outside of my areas too, but it is just mintmark placement and perfectly normal.

In those days, the mintmark was punched into the die by hand, so there can be a variance in the position from one die to the next. If you take a look at Kennedy half dollars from the 70's, you will see the mintmark all over the place.

Great, thank you for the insight. I didn't know that.

Measuring on the photo, they don't seem that different in size.

You are right, they don't actually seem that different in size, other than I think one was struck more strongly than the other. It was mostly the difference in location on the coins that made me take notice, as well as the angle of each.
