Hi everyone I know I haven’t posted any coins in a while (working on the minting and errors thread ) but seeing the Ike dollar post reminded me of the 50 Ikes I bought a while ago. Still have not had a thorough examination of them but I did weigh them and put them in a nice coin booklet. New scale, works great! This one in particular was over weight. It weighs in at 23.12-13grams Imho, I think that it is within weight tolerance and is not a silver Ike. Let me know your thoughts! Thank you! Ike dollar tolerance Weight Clad: 22.680 grams Silver: 24.592 grams Weight Tolerance (+/-) Clad: 0.907 grams Silver: 0.984 grams Ike dollar 40% or clad 8 grains +/- .52 grams This is the only clad coin not held to the same standard as the silver versions.
No the others are not held to the same stands either. quarter clad is +/-.227 grams 40% is +/- .200 grams Half clad is +/- .454 40% silver +/- .400 grams The dollar coin is the only one where the weight tolerance ranges don't overlap Maximum weight for a clad Ike is 23.58 grams so you coin is within tolerance and is clad. Minimum weight for a silver Ike is 23.608 grams
