I recently found this 1977 us quarter that seems to have several errors. I am not very knowledgeable about coins and I just mainly look for old coins or coins with mint errors. I'd really appreciate any information about this coin! Hopefully the pictures upload properly

Your Quarter is PMD - Post Mint Damage :yack:
What someone did was strike the edge with a small hammer or spoon to flatten it. It is done to make a ring or just because they are bored.

    Not a Mint Error

Oh, but what about the smooth edges and the thickness? I don't know if the thickness is wrong or not but it seems odd to me. Should the coin have any letters telling where it was minted?

The thickness and the smooth edge resulted from the hammering or spooning.
Looks like a D Mint Mark behind Washingtons Bust - Denver

Oh well, that's disappointing :meh:. You must have really good eyes cuz I can not see any letter by his head lol! Even with a magnifying glass! Thanks for the info!

Wait a minute, I think I see the D. Is it right at the end of his hair, under the bow in his hair?

When coins accidentally go through the laundry, they can sometimes get stuck in the dryers. Happens a lot in public laundromats. The spinning around can cause similar damage to what your coins is showing. Think of it like it getting stuck on it's edge and rolling all day. Eventually the edge will flatten and look wider.

What makes me question weather it is or not, is the roundness in the edge of your coin.

Caught between the dryer drum and wall. Another PMD coin. But not yours.

    Want to know the difference?
Hammered or spooned coin has the flat edge that's sharp. A Dryer coin has an edge that is flat and rounded. This happens because of the tumbling. Think of a rock tumbler and how it smoothes the surface.

Thank you. I see what you mean in your picture comparing it to op's coin.

Learned something new today, and it's only 2:30 in the morning!!

Are these coins PMD? There's something about this coin that is weird.

I have a 1977 quarter just like the one Mbaird03 has. What are the odds of that? I would share pictures but can't figure out how to do it on here.

Are you asking rhetorically, or would you like to do the math? :hilarious::cat::cat:
