1977 George Washington Quarter Error or PMD?

    Hello All,

    Wanted to check if this could possibly be an error. What I think could be an error is pointed at using a red arrow. Thank you.

    I assume that you are referring to the missing edge. I'm guessing that this is some sort of chemical damage (acid?) which has eaten through the nickel layer to the copper core.

    Copper is a softer metal than nickel.
    Acids will dissolve the copper faster than the nickel.
    Your coin was left in an acid environment, causing the acid to erode the copper layer between the cupronickel layers.

    I think the guys above got it. Definitely acid erosion
