Why do you think it's a proof coin, and not a regular business strike?

This coin is different I believe.

It is probably pretty shiny but it is not a proof. There are some of these that left the mint shiny or it could have been polished. It's hard to tell from even good photos. I'd guess it's one of the shiny ones.

Bicentennials were struck in both Philly and Denver.
    It's not a proof.

A quick check of the RedBook states Proofs were only made in San Francisco with the S Mint Mark.

    P & D & S circulated coins totaled over 1.6 billion.

Many people hoarded these, and kept them. Then later in life they were dumped. I've found several MS-MintState Bicentennial quarters from pocket change over the years.

Do you have a Redbook ? or use similar online resources to check first ?
Do you have a Proof to compare it against or an online source with pictures/comparisons to compare ?

  7. I believe it came from a proof set because I took them out because I think I have type 2 Ike dollar it's double and its mirrored finished so I just wondering what everyone thoughts on it....

  8. Well I had 6. Coin proof set that had proofs with nno mint mark and we're clad and I had a 6 coin proof set that has a D mint mark...I found them together I think both are rare errors

  9. Well it said it was a proof set and I had a Ike type 2 no mint mark so I cut them opened and was trying to see what everyone though of it

A mint set is not a proof set.
1976-S came in proof sets. Mint sets are just regular coins placed in
    cellophane before they get circulated.
Your 1976 Philly coin is worth a quarter. There is nothing special about it.
If you like it, save it.

  18. Let me send some better pics of all coins we might can figure it out cause it says proof set on box ...

you described a Mint Set though.
there are aftermarket "mint" sets or whatever they want to call them too.
