Yikes. Before I knew about variations I sold all of my non silver Ike's. I sold all of by Blue & Brown Ike's in the envelopes and brown box. Tough way to learn.
Look at Charles talk about Ike Dollars here. @ 11:56 ---That 72-D Ike that he bought for $1,000 bucks and graded at MS-66. He sells it, and it gets reholdered at one grade higher and it sells for $10K~! OUCH!
I think my next video (Eps.# 69), will be all about my process of checking out a coin. The who, what, where, etc..... of how I do it as a beginner and maybe get some input from others on how to do it better and share that info with those that watch.
Very nice web article. Been around the world myself and have very little out of country monies. Gave most of it away to my children. Sure would like to get my hands on that book of Eiks. Couldn't afford it anyway, but a nice looking collection. Thanks for the share.
All of my Ike's are in the mint plastic with other coins. Can I just cut out the Ike & then give them a water, acetone , water bath to clean them and then repackage in air-tight holders?
In preteen mint condition of course I understand separating the coin set to make another type, but what's with the washing?
I thought I did, but after further looking, I need to be more sure. I'll get back to you on that.....
Early 70's and 80's packaging from the mint have a haze from the plastic and I think a wash will take the haze off for a better appearance.
Sounds good, but honestly, I don't know. I have seen coins being turned away for "Improper Cleaning" though. So be sure to research a good cleaning process so as to not lose any value. Good luck
OK, THIS IS A GOOD ONE! Finally got to my second batch of those Eiks. Unfortunately still no "Friendly Eagles", but this 1976 D is the best error coin I have ever found. Not a Double Die but a TRIPLE. OUTSTANDING! Al pics below are from the same coin. Out of the first 8, I have found 5 with some very nice errors. Thank you Krogers.
I agree Machine doubling, although the fact that it is actually machine tripling on AMERICA is interesting. Tripling is rather unusual.
YEA.......$10K ebay here i come.....just kidding, but I do appreciate all of the help. Like I said before, it would have to be well (majorly), worth it for me to ever sell any of this stuff. 1) It's for family (after I go, but not if they try to put me in a nursing home) 2) This stuff is just a fun rainy day hobby (unfortunately there are too many physical ones lately)
