@Sheila Ruley If you look on the reverse, you will surely see that the devices are smashed in the corresponding areas.....PMD! For some reason, people seem to enjoy defacing Lincoln cents more than any other denomination. Chris
Yes, I knew instantly it was PMD. I was just curious about where it May have come from. Interesting....
I want to share this info from the internet with you - Liberty Bell Penny The Liberty Bell penny doesn’t have all of that interesting information behind it, but still shows up pretty often. It too is just a novelty coin that was stamped by a 3rd party after it left the Mint. This coin is stamped with a picture of the Liberty Bell to the left of Lincoln’s head and a map to the right.
Here is a similar thread from last year .. I responded with the same images I shared with you today. https://www.cointalk.com/threads/1976-d-penny-never-seen-1of-these.266068/#post-2190993
That was just a fun one to post. I couldn't resist.... I instantly knew it was purposely done, but I just didn't know why. I had to ask
I used to have a lot of these when I was a kid. I had the entire Apollo Space series at one time also. Littleton Coin Co. used to sell these all the time back in the day. Along with gold plated cents which confuse newbies to no end.
I have a 1986 Lincoln penny with a 1986 gold Liberty Eagle planchette design. On the obverse is the eagle bringing a twig to another eagle with two baby eagles. On the reverse side is the standing liberty
I believe that is just damage. There is no way to strike an image from a gold eagle especially that small onto a Cent.
