1976 d Lincoln cent with liberty Bell and USA on obverse

    The two counterstamps are PMD, and it is only worth more than 1c to someone who collects them. Unfortunately, when that person passes, his heirs are going to be in for a real shock.

    I have a few counterstamps, and I hope that someone gets a real good laugh from them when I pass. I've left specific instructions not to embarrass themselves by asking a dealer what they are worth.

    What do you mean by when that person passes their heris will be in for a shock

    PMD is Post Mint Damage. The Liberty Bell and outline of the US, are also known as counter stamps - added by someone after the coin left the Mint and sold as souvenir coins. If the heirs think the coin will be valuable they will be disappointed.
