Not enough pictures.... Just kidding Looks like MD - Mechanical Doubling IMHO That would be Worthless Doubling By the way.. The correct numismatic terminology is Doubled Die and not double die. The die is not double but the image is doubled when the variety occurs during production of the die.
Good eye and thanks for the clear pictures. I agree with paddyman, you are showing an example of machine doubling. Good NGC article about the difference: https://www.ngccoin.com/news/article/5688/Double-Dies-vs-Machine-Doubling/
Grrr.. I did it again with the pictures. I want a true Doubled Die so bad, I am even posting double or in this case triple images... My bad on the Title.
Don't feel bad. Look at the file name that NGC gave the article. .ngccoin.com/news/article/5688/Double-Dies-vs-Machine-Doubling/ Someone should call them and correct them.
What's the number? I will call them when they open up again! This Coin World magazine got it totally correct! @ldhair Did you see my latest find? Seated! https://www.cointalk.com/threads/silver-dime-seated-1861-metal-detecting-joy.358214/#post-4341712
When finding one like this pay attention to the smaller letters such as the designers initials . If this had been a doubled die the smaller letters would have shown the doubling a lot easier to see. This info. should help some beginners learn to know the difference between MD and a real DD
What made me question it the most was the doubling on his right collar, cuff and knuckles. Also on the lelf forearm.
