Hi. 1975 penny was minted odd. The obverse is off kilter about 10 degrees when flipping from front to back. It is circulated though in good condition. Any guesses to it's value? Sorry, no pic. Matt
You sound like you're describing a 10-degree rotated die. That's common, although it is a manufacturing defect. That is to say, if you were to return it to the Mint where it was manufactured, they should give you your money back.
It's my understanding that the US Mint allows a rotation of 15 degrees to be within acceptable tolerance. Chris
Good answer. Then he might not get his money back. I'd try it, still, as he's a little unsure, he said it's "about 10 degrees." If it's 16 degrees, he should insist on his money back, he has a legal right.
So if a coin is 16 degrees or more out,you can send it back to the mint and expect a check for 1 cent in return?
Well, I suppose, as based on what Chris said, it would be 1 degree out of tolerance. If not, just sue them.
