1974 silver quarter

I've been searching all over the place to find out about the 1974 silver quarter. I just found this forum and was reading about the one on here...

I've been collecting coins for close to 30 years and about 10 years ago I came across a 1974 silver quarter while traveling around the country and I've had it checked out by a few coin dealers and also taken it to a couple jewelry shops..and it was found to be 40% silver.

I've had this coin for years and thought it was interesting since I never heard of a silver 1974 quarter before. I've been offered $300 from a collector in Los Angeles, but since I dont know how many are out there, I did not sell it.

Its very interesting that another one has been found. I've never sent it to be graded, I think I might get it graded soon.

If anyone else knows anything about this coin please let me know...

As you I have a 74 40%silver clad coin if they are that wouldn't they be worth more

I have what I believe is a 1974 silver clad (40%) silver Washinton quarter. I know, they didn't make those.

I have had it since the late 70's. My mom's found it in change when she was working cash register. She has always saved ANY silver she found.

I had it weighed years ago, '79-'80 (at my local coin shop) & it was the weight of the '76 silver clad. Of course they offered me 5 bucks for it....it's just a proof & not worth anything...of course there is no mint mark on it but it is only a proof. :headbang:

My guess is a transitional metal error.

Has anyone ever heard of this error? I have searched for years & have never heard of one on a 74 quarter.

I know...pics, but I have a poor camera & lets not even talk about pics under magnification.

I to own a 74 40%silver guarter that looks to be silver clad copper if they are rare why aren't they worth more $

....it's probably plated as a novelty item.
