Trying to figure out this penny damage. The letters and numbers don't appear to be smeared or mashed in from the damage. Lincoln can be clearly seen on the reverse and without damage. Maybe it's pitting from being in water or stepped on several times. Any help or thoughts would be appreciated.

Welcome to CT @chris jarrell. Trying to figure out the what, where, when, and how a coins had become damaged is never easy, or totally on the mark, unless you are the person doing the damage, so save your brain cells and just lump it in with ED, environmental damage, cause: unknown. Good luck.
Maybe it got corroded by some powerful chemicals or it got sandblasted. Maybe a prankster put it in somebody's hubcap and it bounced around for 200,00 miles. Maybe it got shot out of a cannon.
Thanks but no problem taking it down. I am practicing being more sensitive to the feelings of others. So please let me know whenever I am off track.
Good for you. Took me over 20 years after leaving the armed forces to achieve anything close to it, LOL
