My name is Robert Gortman. I live in Lithia, Florida. I found in circulation a gold colored penny with a "AR" stamped on it inside what looks to be the shape of a state. What are you missing from your set?

I just found a 1974 lincoln penny with Hawaii stamped on it. You can have it if you still need it to complete the set your grandfather gave you.

I started collecting in '76, when I was ten and a half. Those "state penny" sets were offered in not only coin magazines, but widely marketed to the general public as well.

Though they are of course a privately modified item with no numismatic value and only novelty value, you could say they were one of the first "50 States" coin series, since they preceded the Statehood quarters by a generation.

A couple of blank Dansco cent pages would be a nice display method.

I've found some of these over the years and kept them aside. Today a complete framed set of 50 all 1993 came up in my coin club auction and I bought it for $10. I've seen the complete loose set offered at about that price but would have had to pay shipping so I'm pleased with what I got.

Informative I found a roll of these 1974 d ,with the states stamped on them.
Also a roll of 2009d is there any special reason one would buy these rolls for the future gain. The individual was not a coin collector although he had a few rare coins in his possession? He was just a collector of every thing.

No real gain in counter stamped cents. Anyone can do it. Just a fun aside to collecting is all.

Its real the other rolls I mentioned .I m not a stranger to collecting coins I just don't do much collecting . I have come upon these because others in the family did. Now the task for me is to find if there is value or not. These days the internet is good and bad all depends on who you talk with.
So why would a 1959 D penny sell for nearly 2 K grading only? the first year with the memorial instead of wheat.
I have a roll all 1959d uncerculated for sure but not graded. I'm told that grading them is expensive and the reward is likely to the negative.

Depending on which reverse the 2009D roll has, it could be worthwhile to examine using a error site that has a listing, as there are several different minor DDR in that year/mint. Jim

I am new to this group. this thread deals with a different issue. I do not mean to steal from the .initial intent . that has been answered.

this other I would take to a new thread if I knew where to put it and how to categorize it. Tthe 2009 varieties seem to have a huge number of DDR I opened my roll and found many irregularities. But I am not one to evaluate.
What makes them desirable ? alot of die marks and dings. How does one know If a roll of new coins, all of the same mint and format likely rolled at the mint then shipped to a banking institution, or bagged and rolled at the bank? Where some one buys it and puts it away . The dings are to be determined HOW ?
The fault of the mint or the bank ? Why would die crack marks or dings ,spot deposits, be established collectable? Who can say these make a deformation has value?
