Mr. Weinberg was kind enough to give me some email time. he said this is the best one. I told him I didn't have much luck with the five or six forum sites I tried. this is the first one where I actually got positive, helpful information.
off-topic but that looks like an Ellensburg blue agate on your avatar. I live in E-burg. it borders high desert. I bought coins here, uncirculated wheat cents with desert sand as fine as dust stuck to the devices. cheers! mike

It is iolite or gem blue cordierite. One of my other hobbies is faceting gems. Since you started the thread, I will add.

here are 3 spessartite garnets I did ( they are in clamp holders for display)

here is a ruby red Tanzania garnet I cut into a gem for a ring for me :) in the dop.

This is a difficult material to cut as fractures are common.

Clinohumite, a rather rare gemstone cut from rough for a niece.

    So thanks for the opportunity!

that is really nice work, Jim! those red garnets would make great Valentine's gifts.
I started collecting stones when I first got here but they started taking over my house and I found them harder to ID than coins I found in change. I had the loupe so it was a good transition. thanks for sharing.

Perfect photo's. I am no pro but that looks like very nice and consistent doubling across the entire motto to me. Very good example and much nicer than mine as I recall. I need to fish mine out for comparison. I really like this coin you have. Did Fred look at these photo's or have anything to say?

I think you need to send your 74D half dollar to James Wiles at Variety Vista and spend the money for an attribution to see if this is a doubled die and if he will add it to the CONECA Master Listings as a new discovery. http://varietyvista.com/Attribution Services.htm
