Anyone have an explanation for this penny's engravings on the obverse? I take it that it is only worth 1 cent?
These first showed up in 1964 a year after John Kennedy was killed. A tribute to him and Lincoln as both were killed in office ,both had similarities in their administrations . Since that time I've seen many other items etched into a Lincoln cent. Masons symbols , boy scouts, just to name two. Most 1964 Kennedy facing Lincoln cents are from that year, as with just a year from Kennedy death as well as the Kennedy half being released they were very popular with collectors . Prior to this time defacing U.S. money was against the law I have o e still red in color given to me by my uncle another coin collector in my family .
Thank you both. Now since my reply alerts previous posters. I have 1 more question. Hopefully 1 of you have an answer for me. Foreign coins. I came across a 1956 Australian penny with the Perth mint mark on it. I was reading up on it because I know nothing what so ever about it. Am I overlooking it or is this coin valuble? Thank you.
Well I thought it was a 64 but it's an 65 in the 2x2 that my Uncle Bill put it in. I have never removed it. My uncle was a coin collector and passed shortly after he gave this to me
