1973 Lincoln 1c - Can anyone tell me what I am looking at here? :)

    This one has a funny story in our family recently. I mean, imagine the heart attack I nearly had when I saw it in a roll of steel wheat cents. Haha!

    Sadly, it weighs the same as a standard 1973 copper cent, so no aluminum. I am thinking this is some kind of HS science class plating (mercury or something), but it just seems so strange. I have searched for images that looks similar to this diamond/triangle-like pattern, but I have not found anything.

    I appreciate any insights- thank you!!

    +1 , and not a very good job at that

    Years ago I had a full roll of 1959's plated with electroless nickel.......that experiment turned out better than I expected:
