So I went to a store yesterday and noticed they had a roll of half dollars in their drawer. I asked of I could purchase the roll and they said no problem. To make a long story short this is the 1st time I have searched Kennedy's for errors. All of them have the FG on reverse. But this one had something different with his eye. Can someone tell me if this is just PMD. If it isn't what is it? Took close-up of eye ball using 2 different kind of lighting. The red arrows show an extra raise line in his eyeball. Is it Just PMD...an error, or just normal and I just missed this line on the rest of them? Thanks again...Mont
I can't tell from your photos. It also looks like there might be doubling on his chin, but I can't tell if it is hub doubling or just machine doubling. Chris
I found one exactly the same. I sent it to Wexler, and he said it was PMD. I didn't do anything with it after that, but put it away. Now with two the same, could it be something? Here is my thread on it. https://www.cointalk.com/threads/kennedy-half-whats-up-with-the-eye.277297/
It would be interesting to know if Wexler had a change of heart if he had both coins to examine at the same time. My only reservation would be because they are two different dates. Chris
Yes, the different dates do make it harder. The only reason I didn't really think it was PMD, was that the area is smooth like a strike. No pushup /ridges on the edges and it seems to follow the same line as the regular eye outline.
Did you mean my close-ups? Here is one from farther out. It looks like an upper eyelid to me as everything above the line is raised like a "shelf" Could this be some sort of conveniently placed lamination error?
