1972 S red penny

    Hello my name is Maria, my son had these pennies in his coin jar wondering if someone could tell me if this is worth anything? 1972 S red penny, 1943 D steel penny.

    Welcome to Coin Talk.
    I my opinion both coins are worth about 10¢ each. Due mostly to their condition.

    Your red is not red. Red is when it is brand new.
    The red you have is from environmental damage.
    In this 1st photo, I found this coin, it might be called "red".
    In the 2nd photo, (also found this coin) it is the color red because
    it was in the ground and is environmentally damaged. Copper is reactive.
    It will change colors with exposure to air, gases, chemicals, pollutants, fire, soil, etc. As for value, the 1st one is 1 cent. The second one, is very common
    and might be 5-10 cents. In better condition it is worth more.

    About a Dime for the 1943 cent. Spend the other and it's not red as too many were made. You could buy him an album and let him plug the holes with them. This would be a nice coin to start with.
