My opinion on this after reviewing the pictures is this is one of many examples of master die doubling, and can be found from all three mints of that year since it was on the master die. projected to be 60-70% of the total mintage for 1972 from all 3 mints. The upper-left of the 9 appears mangled. It would be intact were this a doubled die. Check it out with your magnifying glass. It's the part of the 9 that's closest to the 1.
Almost half of the production run was master hub doubled. Cant tell from the photos but could be that. No premium.
I was looking for the typical items like the raised detail in the N and the split in the D...but I don't see it from the photos provided. I personally don't think its the master hub doubling...this may be from the 30% unaffected. Better photos would help to tip this one way or the other though.
I see md at some angles, even on the mintmark. There wouldn't be doubling on the mintmark. Also please keep the photos simple. North-south orientation is all that's necessary.
