Bought a jewelry box at an estate sale, in it was this 1972 quarter underneath some lapel pins. There are gashes, almost seems to be folded in places not sure the name of this particular error, would like to know if anyone else has come across this one before. edited Thanks all
That is total post mint damage. Not an error. Ouch! that quarter in now worth 23.5 cents. spend it. edited
Put it between 2 wood blocks and hammer it back flat. Then spend it. I hoard 99% of my change .. but that one I'd hammer flat and spend it.
Welcome to CT @Roma. Someone went crazy with diagonal cutters. Probably an experiment to make jewelry that failed, hence it is in a jewelry box.
Looks like a previous owner beat that thing with a hatchet or chisel - painful looking PMD - hardly spendable as is - keep it as a curiosity
Don't assume because something looks different or strange that it is a Mint Error. That is all damaged after it left the Mint. Not an error at all.
